Cat 6 Cable Diameter

Comtran cable recently announced that because of improved geometric engineering the company has been able to reduce the size of two of its highest performing unshielded twisted pair cables comtran s category 6 cable as well as its enhanced category 6 cable which it dubs cat 6e and tests to 550 mhz have been reduced in outside diameter.

The improved design has. Cat 6 supports 10 gigabit ethernet only up to 164 feet of cable length. It s theoretical top speed is 10 gbps over 100 meters. The cost is about 20 35 higher than cat6 but the maximum cable length is 100 meters across all systems and conditions for gigabit ethernet.

The cable standard specifies performance of up to 250 mhz compared to 100 mhz for cat 5 and cat 5e. Cat 6 has to meet more stringent specifications for crosstalk and system noise than cat 5 and cat 5e. Cat 6 cables technically support speeds up to 10gbps but only do so for up to 55 meters.
